Has the Little Mermaid found her prince? According to brand new reports, Harry Styles is currently in early talks to play Prince Eric in the live action remake of the popular Disney animated film!
While fans of the singer and former member of One Direction may be very excited to hear this, at this point, nothing has been confirmed.
As you know, Harry proved his acting skills with his big-screen debut role in the 2017 war film Dunkirk and has received a lot of praise for his performance.
Furthermore, earlier this month, it was announced that the iconic title character of the Little Mermaid, Ariel, will be played by Halle Bailey.
The adaptation’s director, Rob Marshall released a statement reading: ‘After an extensive search, it was very clear Halle possesses a very rare combination of spirit, youth, innocence, heart and substance – plus a glorious voice – all qualities necessary to play this iconic role.’
Obviously, the casting process for the other characters has been going on in the background as well so it is expected for other roles to be officially announced at any point.
As for the production, it is expected to start sometime at the beginning of next year.
The decision to cast Bailey has been met with both praise and criticism since it is such a bold move to choose someone that looks so different from the original Ariel.
People were upset the beloved mermaid’s race has been changed but the young stat was still very excited about getting to be a part of that world and ignored the negativity.
